5 Easy Ways to Avoid Backlinking Spam

SEO – love it or hate it, you can’t just ignore it. Whether you are doing SEO for your website yourself, or getting it outsourced, you would definitely be aware of link building. Speaking of which, one of the most frequent issues that you have to deal with is avoid getting marked as spam, especially when you are trying to get links from blog comments. Writing good comments is not rocket science, all it requires is some additional effort from you. Read on to know what kind of quality standards you should maintain to get some good quality links.

1. Thou shalt not spam
The blogger is giving you a valuable link. So, the least you can do is not spam. I have seen instances where people just visit our blog just in order to get a link from the comment. They write promotional stuff about their website without even bothering to read through the post! There is no way such a comment is going to get approved.

2. Don’t be greedy
Just because a blog is dofollow doesn’t mean you can try to get as many links as possible. Don’t stuff up your comment with links. In fact unless you are pointing out to some resource that might be relevant, don’t use links in the comment at all. After all, you are already getting a link from the URL field.

3. The blogger is human too!
Spare some effort to actually read the post. Doing this will actually create a favorable impression about you, and you might even end up establishing a good relationship with the blogger.

4. Say something of substance
Try to leave some insightful comment rather than a generic “Nice!”, “Good blog!”,etc. As I mentioned earlier, read the post and contribute something of essence. If you don’t have anything useful to say, do not to comment at all.

5. Be a nice person :)
You don’t necessarily have to agree to whatever the blogger says. Even if you are contradicting him/her, there is no need to criticize the post overly. Put down your arguments politely, in a concise and clear fashion.

Follow these steps for quality link building, and you will see that you will observe the difference yourself!

WiseStamp: A Cool Way to Customize Your Email Signature

For emails, most of us use a preset automatic signature which you can customize in the email client’s settings. Suppose you use Gmail client for sending out mails, you might have noticed that though Gmail allows hyperlinks in the form of http://yourwebsite.com, it doesn’t make the links ‘clickable.’ Just take a moment and imagine the sheer number of emails you send out in a day – making the links ‘clickable’ is definitely a good way to get traffic. However, converting website addresses to clickable URLs manually every time you send a mail is quite a hassle.

We recently found this cool add-on for Firefox which provides a solution for this issue. WiseStamp is a great way to add hyperlinks to your signature. It just doesn’t provide you with an option of having clickable URLs – it supports HTML hyperlinks. This means that you can customize your hypertext to suit your URL.

WiseStamp supports various email clients like Gmail (as well as Google Apps), Yahoomail, Hotmail, AOL, etc. You can use WiseStamp to add a logo or an image to your signature. There are also options to add your personal IM profiles (Gtalk, Yahoo messenger, Skype) and your social networking profiles on Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook and Flickr. You can even add an RSS feed, which you can link with your blog, bookmarks, etc. How cool is that!

The only hitch, if any, is that though the Help section mentions that you can personalize your Personal and Business signature for different email IDs, I didn’t find any such Setting to do so. However, it is a very minor issue, and is nothing at all compared to the amazing functionality it otherwise provides.

In case you thought you are restricted by choice of browser, think again. WiseStamp has a version that works with Chrome as well! Here’s the link to add WiseStamp.

We are already using WiseStamp and we love it :) Do let us know if this benefits you!

How to plan a Business Trip

Chaitanya returned back to India from a 40 day business tour of the US. The trip was a good experience and all of us at p2w2 benefited greatly from what he had to share.

The success of a business trip is highly dependent on the amount of planning that you do beforehand. I’d like to share some insights and learnings that went into planning Chaitanya’s US trip.

1.Have a clear purpose

Make sure you know clearly what the end result of the trip should be(get new customers/expanding to a new geography/learning about new trends, etc). Plan your trip accordingly.

2. Decide the agenda of your trip well in advance

This is essential so that you can book tickets, hotel rooms in advance and thereby save money too. Make sure that you choose your place of stay wisely, so that you don’t spend valuable time commuting.

3. Chalk out events properly

If you’re looking to meet potential clients, attend referral meetings. If you wish to know more about what is happening in that geography, what are the new trends, etc. attend seminars and conferences.  But more about planning events and seminars, later!

4.Popularize your meetings

If you’re conducting meetings, plan in advance and make sure it is well publicized. Use tools such as Meetup, Eventbrite, Upcoming, etc. to create buzz around your events.

5. Tweet and blog your experiences!

I hope you found this useful. Keep checking our blog to know what kind of planning needs to go into attending seminars and events specifically!
